Managerial Trouble Abounds In The Premiership
Life without Alan Curbishley is not kind, as Zola is already not having a fun time at West Ham. The Hammers have lost their strongest attacking presence in Dean Ashton, and also are now under extreme pressure from the global credit cruch. As things are, West Ham have announced that they would have to sell players in order to purchase any new ones in January’s transfer window. That’s not unusual for a club that isn’t exactly a threat for the Premiership title, but the fact that the Carlos Tevez ruling with £30million at stake, West Ham could be in trouble.
It’s no secret that you have to spend money to have top flight football in pretty much any reputable league in Europe. With West Ham already scraping pennies together to pay wages and acquire transfer money, a £30million decision against them will sink the club and make Zola’s having taken the job, a move he will regret.
Rafa Benitez is also in trouble at Liverpool, as the hated American ownership of the club have not made any motion to extend Benitez’s contract which will expire in little over a year. Which would be a huge mistake as despite Liverpool’s failure to win the League in almost twenty years, Benitez has made them European contenders, and in time will build them into a dominant force in England. Honestly the trouble is Steven Gerrard, when he was absent in Liverpool’s match against Manchester United, Liverpool put out their best performance. Benitez may be relying a little too much on his captain, and that could lose him his job.
Newcastle are in a whole different world of trouble, in that Joe Kinnear looks as though he will end up being manager for a little longer than expected. The Nigerian consortium that had reportedly made an offer to Newcastle to purchase the club, has apparently not done so. Meaning Ashley has extended the window for making a purchase on Newcastle, and Joe Kinnear could end up as the manager of Newcastle until well into 2009. Which, as Kinnear’s already dismal leadership has shown, will only hurt Newcastle in the long run.
Don’t sign a new deal and jump ship now Michael Owen, unless you want to erase all of your earlier career achievements, by burning them from memory with the fastest sinking club since Derby County last season.
