Looking Forward
Newcastle United owner Chris Mort will financially back Kevin Keegan’s decisions in the upcoming summer transfer market, as long as the charges don’t accrue to Leeds proportions. As Chris Mort has stated his caution towards overspending, and has promised not to send the club into debt. Personally I think this is a fantastic move for Newcastle, as Keegan has even been quoted as saying Newcastle could crack the top five within the three years left in his contract. After this season, who wouldn’t love to see even more competition at the top.
Peter Crouch voiced more discontent for his placement in the Liverpool order, as he’s only made nine starting appearances this season in the Premiership. Crouch has requested a meeting with manager Rafael Benitez to discuss his future with the club, before making any decision about leaving Liverpool. And what an idiot Benitez will be if he lets a striker like Crouch leave, as Liverpool’s number one problem on the year was their goal-scoring, why would you turn down a man who only has a nose for the net. I understand Fernando Torres has been brilliant this season, but he hasn’t been proven in the Premiership until after his second year, he may still yet suffer from the sophomore slump.
And speaking of idiotic decisions, give me a break Manchester City, throwing away Sven-Goran Eriksson after never really giving him a proper opportunity. The changes he’s made to City, most notably bringing in Petrov, have raised the team to a much more competitive level. Maybe they had a disappointing finish this year ending up ninth after a brilliant start, but give them a chance to grow a little bit. For goodness sake they won the Manchester derby twice for the first time in ages, that’s the start of something wonderful for the blues, and now they don’t have a prayer of building on it.
Finally, with a bit of a shocker, Avram Grant has stated that if Chelsea are given the opportunity to acquire manager Frank Rijkaard, he would gladly step down into a different role with the club. I’m sort of dumbfounded at this because, Avram Grant has been battling the critics most of the year, after taking over for “the special one” Jose Mourinho. Now finally when he’s earned a bit of praise for taking the title race down to the wire, and leading Chelsea into their first Champions League final ever, he’s going to just step down. Absolute further proof that Grant has had nothing to do with Chelsea’s late success, and everything can actually be explained as residual Jose Mourinho glory left behind at the club, coming to fruition.
