Championship Promotion Situation
Another season almost over in the English League Championship, and two teams, with a third to be decided, achieving promotion to the Barclay’s English Premier League. West Brom and Stoke having come in first and second on points in the table, thereby achieving their places in the Premiership next season. Leaving Hull, Bristol City, Crystal Palace, and Watford left to play for the final opportunity to play in England’s premier competition.
My pick to go beyond the limits of the Coca-Cola Championship after this season, would have to be Crystal Palace, especially if Clinton Morrison can keep his nose for the net hungry. With 16 goals in the regular season, Crystal Palace can ease past the competition if Morrison can pull out some good performances. Also having only 11 losses on the year, Crystal Palace’s ability to pull off a win or at least draw most of the time could be very pivotal because of the two-legged semifinal format.
Hull faces off against Watford on Sunday in the first leg at Watford, with the second leg to be played at Hull on Wednesday. Crystal Palace faces Bristol City in the first leg at home on Saturday, with the tie being finished on Tuesday in Bristol.
